Liposuction: What the price of beauty is

from: ProPlasticSurgery.com

With society's emphasis on beauty and thinness, people especially teeners opt for natural or artificial ways to achieve what they consider is beautiful for society. Some choose to go through the less painful and less costly method such as subscribing to diet plans.

Although this can be quite effective with people who know how to eat moderately and do some exercise, others try to take the short road and try to do some crash dieting. This method is not good for the body as it robs the body of much needed nutrients and energy. If not monitored, crash dieting can also lead to eating disorders like bulimia and anorexia nervosa, which have already claimed famous Hollywood teen stars as their victims.

Another option for the thin-wannabes is liposuction, a surgical procedure which removes fat deposits in specific parts of the body. This is done with the use of a vacuum-suction canula, a hollow instrument that resembles a pen. Practitioners also use an ultrasonic probe that breaks uo the fats into small pieces. This process is called emulsification. After which the emulsified fat deposits are then removed by suction.

Because fat deposits are removed, the area treated will then look thinner. Liposuction can be done on the abdomen, on the thighs and the calves, the buttocks and the hips, the back, and the arms. Liposuction may also be performed on the neck and the face. Other practitioners also use liposuction to treat abnormally large breasts for men, a condition called gynecomastia. Fat tumors or lipomas are also removed through the use of the procedure. Still, even with its medical uses, liposuction is still known and considered by many as primarily a cosmetic medical procedure.

Liposuction is only recommended for people who have localized fat deposits in certain areas of the body and not for overall weight loss. However, most patients have multiple procedures done on their bodies, thus achieving the same objective of total weight loss. It should however be noted that when multiple procedures are done in the body, more risks are involved and fats may even appear in areas that previously do not have fat deposits.

Liposuction is actually a simple procedure. This is why it can be done even inside a doctor's clinic. Of course, there are also liposuction procedures that are done in a surgical center or in a hospital depending on the doctor that will perform the procedure.

One requirement though for the place where the liposuction will be done is that it is clean. Infections can easily go through the open wounds. It is also important that the place have some sort of emergency facilities that may be used just in case a complication arises from the procedure. If you feel that the clinic does not have sufficient facilities to back it up, ask if you can have the procedure done in a hospital.

Also, check if there is a nearby hospital where you can be brought to just in case something happens and immediate medical attention is required.

Liposuction is an invasive procedure that requires expertise and experience. Remember that not only will the surgeon or physician cut through your skin to insert the equipment, he or she will also be sucking fat deposits inside your body. One wrong move or one wrong decision and organs may be damaged. There are cases when parts of internal organs and vessels are accidentally sucked by mistake. Extreme caution should be exercised as there are people who die from this procedure, even if it is considered simple.
